Bathrooms tend to be some of the smallest rooms in our homes. While the main practical elements in a bathroom, the sink, the toilet, and the shower or tub can require some monetary investment and skilled labor to change, there are many upgrades you can make with simple décor changes that can completely transform the look of your bathroom. If you are tired of your current bathroom and want a whole new feel, use these tips to create a relaxing retreat with a minimal budget.

A fresh coat of paint can dramatically change the look of any room. Many homes come with generic white walls in the bathroom. A cool grey blue color on the walls will quickly transform your stale bathroom into a luxurious spa retreat. You can also use paint to freshen up outdated cabinetry. With a little sanding, priming, and painting, you can turn your old dark wood vanity, into a bright clean cabinet.

Another way to customize your bathroom cabinets on a budget is to add knobs or decorative handles. This simple upgrade can be done in under an hour and will give your cabinets a more sophisticated look. There are thousands of styles to choose from so you should not have any problem finding a door pull that will fit both your style and your budget. Hide the clutter! Many bathrooms just need more storage and less stuff sitting around. Many bathroom accessory companies now offer shower curtain liners that have pockets on the inside. Instead of having bottles lining the edge of your tub or sitting on the shelves of a cheap shower caddy, you can organize your shampoo and other shower items out of site behind your shower curtain. Another way to get rid of clutter is to transfer your bathroom products out of their branded containers with multi colored labels and display them in glass jars with chrome pumps for easy use. This will give your bathroom the coveted apothecary style.

Changing the color of your bathroom accessories is also a nice way to cheaply give you room a new look. Buying new towels and a new shower curtain is easy. If your bathroom is neutral colors, you can even have a collection of different color schemes that you can change with the season.

Lighting is another way you can easily update or change your bathroom. Whether you install a new light fixture or just choose a new cover for the existing fixture, you can give your bathroom a whole new look. If you have a larger bathroom that has room for a makeup area, add a nice decorative lamp on the counter for extra soft light and charm. Using candles to light the room for your evening bath is also a nice way to avoid using harsh overhead lighting and they will give your room a nice glow.

Finally, one thing many people covet are custom vanity areas it their bathrooms. Many homes are built with large boring frameless mirrors in the bathroom. Even if you cannot afford a new custom mirror for your bathroom, you can add painted or stained molding around the edges of your mirror to give your vanity an expensive and custom look.
